Dear Friend, Tonight, the Senate defeated the prolife Nelson-Hatch-Casey amendment, which mirrored the Stupak-Pitts language, prohibiting federal funds from being spent on destroying innocent life. This crushing blow to the majority of Americans opposed to federal funding of abortion occurred after Senator Barbara Boxer of California motioned to table the amendment, a procedural move that spells defeat. The Senate has spoken. They effectively endorsed the abortion lobby's goal of mainstreaming abortion as health care and paying for abortion with our tax dollars! Well over 1,000,000 innocent lives are ended by abortions each year, and now the U.S. Senate has chosen to move forward with a health care bill that will allow our federal tax dollars to fund even more abortions. How can this be? This morning, in a letter sent to Cecile Richards - the President of Planned Parenthood - and , I challenged Cecile to tell the American public how much money they will gain from the health care bill's expansion of abortion. Planned Parenthood is a billion dollar industry but according to a recent , their business is struggling financially. The abortion industry is the beneficiary of today's vote. This is an abortion business bailout bill. HOW TO TAKE ACTION! I ask you to stand with Americans United for Life Action, on the merits of our belief that all human life is a sacred gift, endowed by our creator. This is NOT health care! Real health care protects life! What now? Next step: Please to vote NO on cloture in order to end debate and kill this bill. We now have no choice but to work vigorously to defeat this bill. Organize your friends and family to melt down your Senator's phone lines by calling (202) 224-3121 and with messages of NO to this pro-abortion bill!
For Life,
P.S. You can follow me on and , and follow AUL on , and . We're also reachable by e-mail at . |

Dear Friend, On Wednesday, the Senate Finance Committee's vote of 10-13 to defeat the proved the pro-life community correct: The talk from the White House and the Congressional leadership of avoiding funding of abortions in health care is just that -- talk. The amendment sponsored by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) would have explicitly prohibited federal funding and coverage of abortions. Also defeated by the committee was another amendment by Sen. Hatch that would have prevented discrimination against any individual or organization who refused to provide, pay for, provide coverage of, or refer for abortions. This is where you come in. YOU need to that you will ONLY accept health care reform that includes an explicit prohibition on federal funding and coverage of abortion, much like the pro-life Stupak-Pitts and Hatch amendments that were defeated in Committees. Thank you for all your support during this extremely busy time as we work to show Congress and all Americans that "Real Health Care Respects Life"! For Life,

AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY ('TRY', BEING
THE KEY WORD) TO ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU
THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY.
Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins:
1. Every person has cancer cells in the body . These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors
tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because
they have not reached the detectable size.
2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.
3 When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies . These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle
factors .
5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more
tumor destruction.
9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.
10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.
11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply .
CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful,
etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful . A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in color. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.
b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus . By cutting off milk and substituting withunsweetened soy milk cancer cells are being starved.
c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also
contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.
d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment . About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).
e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate , which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer fighting properties. Water-best to drink
purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.
12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines becomes putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup.
13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.
14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the bodies own killer
cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.
15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit . A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, un-forgiveness and
bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.
16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily , and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.
1. No plastic containers in micro .
2. No water bottles in freezer .
3. No plastic wrap in microwave .
Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well.
Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran , is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the
high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.
This is an article that should be shared with anyone important in your life.

COLUMBIA MAGAZINE ARTICLE
It was especially meaningful to me to read the article on Page 30 of Columbia recently where our Council was recognized for the donation to Father laVoie's vocation program. This donation was the second large contribution by our Council, considering we are a relatively small Council, BUT large in concern for our priests and religious.
I was gratified to know our Council approved of my proposal some time ago to support this important Diocesan project. If you remember, I was faced with many negative opinions and some especially vocal disapproval remarks during my initial proposal. . However, due to the support of then Grand Knight Jim Hillegass, the Council approved the donation. The Council was then recognized with a two-page article in the Catholic Witness, after considerable prodding from me.
The real purpose of this article is not to gain plaudits for me personally, but for the entire Council to take satisfaction in the fact that we are absolutely the very best Council in this District and, perhaps in the entire State.
Thank you, members of the Council for your initial support of this worthwhile program of Father LaVoie. Thanks, also to S/K and PGK John Barachie for his support to keep the bi-annual donation active.
As members of Council 12811, you can also be proud of your continuing support of the ARC. As you will read elsewhere, we have continued this project for TEN years, a record unequalled by many larger Councils in our area.
When we were chartered in the year 2000, Grand Knight John Barachie began developing an agenda for the Council that continues to this day. He initiated the First Free Throw Competition, the first Essay Contest, the first fundraiser for ARC, the remodeling of Leo Hall, the installation of an answering system for our rectory, the painting of all windows in the rectory, Easter Egg Hunts for St. Catherine Laboure and St. Francis parishes, and many other things that continue to this day.
Thank you, Brother Barachie for all your hard work during your three terms as Grand Knight.
In addition, we must recognize Past Grand Knight S/K Jim Hillegass for his unwavering support of the Morningstar Pregnancy Center Services and his support of the many, many programs of our great Council. We also must recognize Past Grand Knight S/K Bill Logan for his hard work as Grand Knight, and as a Deputy Grand Knight.
Thanks also to two of our past Deputy Grand Knights, who worked especially hard during our initial years of development: Andy Kahler and Pat Gonzalez. These two men NEVER sought personal recognition for their efforts in making this Council the leader in the District.
Last, but certainly not least, our present Grand Knight, S/K Jerry Cain who brought our Council into a more active role in the Chapter
and his dedication to the Fourth Degree, his ability to increase our membership, his ability to join together with other Councils in working toward a long term period of cooperation with Councils throughout our entire area.
I feel fortunate to be associated with this Council. During my 40+ years as a Knight, I was a member of a few Councils but I have never been more satisfied with the true meaning of Family, Faith, and Fraternity, which exists in Council 12811.
Fraternally,
S/K John McElwee
It was again brought up at the last assembly meeting that the new assembly would be on the East Shore. It was also reported that the new Assembly would be up and running by July 2009.
